Vashon-Maury Island

Just a short ferry ride away from either Seattle or Tacoma, Vashon Island and it’s connecting neighbor, Maury Island, offer plenty of relaxing options for getting away for the day or the weekend.

If shopping is your thing, the main street through town offers a variety of gift shops and art galleries – and lunch at the Hardware Store Restaurant right downtown is a must (yes, strange name, but the food is great). A short drive out to Maury Island will take you to the Point Robinson Lighthouse. For nature lovers, you’ll want to check out the nearby 300-acre Maury Island Marine Park at the southeast end of the island, where a short hike will take you to the beach below.

There are also several marinas and beaches around the island – Dockton Beach offers a grassy park and playground area for the kids, as well as hiking trails and a rocky beachfront for strolling along the water. The warm waters of Jensen Point make it a popular swimming spot, and hourly kayak rentals are available here during the summer months.
